The Corobici River offers the opportunity for a gentle float trip in Class I and II rapids, a great way for families to experience the beauty and wildlife of Guanacaste. The area is home to over 300 species of birds. Aracaris, parrots, motmots, cuckoos, laughing falcons, kingfishers, sungrebes, egrets, wood storks, ospreys, trogons, Jabiru storks, and seven species of herons have all been seen along the riverbank. Other wildlife includes howler and white-faced monkeys, otters, coatis, iguanas, and small caimans.
After lunch, visit the Las Pumas Rescue Center, a 34-acre park located on an old farm in the heart of a World Heritage Site. Since 1989, Las Pumas has been a safe haven for rescued animals including sloths, pumas, monkeys, birds and reptiles. Most animals are brought to the center by government officials. After rehabilitation, many species are reintroduced to the wild upon approval of veterinarians. You will get to learn how the animals are rescued, taken care of, and reintroduced to the wild or, if they can’t go back, how volunteers and staff care for them ongoingly.
